The Tansen Academy of Music (TAAN) is a distinguished institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich tradition of Hindustani classical music. Founded in 1999 by the eminent Hindustani classical vocalist and Shehnai maestro, Pandit Dr. S. Ballesh Bhajantari, a recipient of prestigious honors such as the Padma Shri, Kalaimamani, Karnataka Rajyotsava, and Karnataka Kalashri, the academy has become a beacon for classical music enthusiasts.
Co-founded by his wife, Smt. Ratna Ballesh, and their sons—Surmani Dr. Krishna Ballesh Bhajantari, Guru Shri Surmani De. Prakash Ballesh Bhajantari, and Guru Shri Surmani Dr. Shivanand Ballesh Bhajantari—TAAN has continued its mission to nurture and propagate Hindustani classical music to generations of students.
With its main branch located in Saligramam, Chennai, and additional branches across Tamil Nadu, TAAN has firmly established itself as a cultural cornerstone in the region. Recognizing the need for further outreach, the academy expanded to Bangalore in 2018 and 2019, opening new branches under the guidance of Guru Dr. S. Ballesh and his sons.
Committed to excellence, the Tansen Academy of Music serves as a hub for aspiring musicians, offering comprehensive training and fostering a deep appreciation for the timeless art of Hindustani classical music
